Why you should be taking Krill Oil over any other Fish Oil
If you have been following me for a while, you know that I recommend krill oil supplements over any other kind of fish oil. I’ll share the facts about krill oil and why it is best for you.
What is Krill Oil?
Krill is a shrimp-like crustaceans that is tiny in size. It is abundant in the arctic and polar seas. The oil extracted from the krill is a rich source of omega-3 fats. It provides the long chain fats (polyunsaturated fats, n-3 PUFAs) – eicosapentaenoic acid ( EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid ( DHA). A major part of these fats are bound in phospholipids. Phospholipid bound omega-3 fats are better absorbed by your body. Research shows that nearly 80% or more of the EPA and DHA in krill oil is in the form phosphatidylcholine form. This ensures its direct absorption into the cells.
There is a multitude of evidence that krill oil offers a vast array of health benefits. Here are some important ones for your body.
Benefits of Krill Oil:
Supports brain health: Krill oil is nature’s best source for two important brain fats — EPA and DHA. These fats are necessary to lower inflammation, produce neurotransmitters, and proper brain development and abilities. Studies show that people who have omega-3 fats in their blood were less likely to develop Alzheimer’s and memory loss as they age.
Promotes healthy joints: Being anti-inflammatory in nature, krill oil helps to improve joint health in patients with arthritic symptoms.
Improves mood: Your brain is made of nearly 70% fat, which is primarily omega-3 fats. Studies show that this fat is necessary to produce important compounds, discourage degeneration and promote production of mood enhancing chemicals, dopamine and serotonin. Low levels of omega-3 fats have been linked to mood swings, depression and other cognitive issues.
Enhanced heart health: There is mounting evidence that eating omega-3 fats can improve your heart health. Several studies indicate that including omega-3 fats every day in your diet can reduce risk of death from heart disease. Omega-3 fats improve heart health by lowering inflammation, improving blood pressure levels, preventing blood clots and lowering high cholesterol. And krill oil is nature’s highest quality source of omega-3 fats.
Why it is best?
Easier to digest: The phospholipid composition of krill oil is easily digested by the human body, which recognizes this type of fat and digests it efficiently.
It is better absorbed: The structure of fatty acid is laid out in a manner that your body can easily absorb into cells.
High in antioxidant: Krill oil is rich source of the powerful antioxidant astaxanthin, which naturally prevents the process of oxidation.
Safe to take : Krill oil is less contaminated than other fish oils as it comes from the lower end of the food chain. Also, krill naturally do not accumulate toxins in their body due to their short lifespan. This means, the krill oil need not be subjected to intense purification process. Most fish oils are contaminated with mercury and other heavy metal contaminants which may pose severe threats to one’s well being.
